This is a question to which I need the answer for a course I'm taking. Just want to know what you all have to say about it.

Man, I'm supposed to ask other people! I have my answer. So now I ask, what's yours? It's not meant to be a difficult question. I was just asking.

Define your terms - total surrender to what exactly?

Sounds like a vaporous course with vaporous questions.

Youch! I was just posing a question, people!
O.K. the idea was not to give my answer but to get other's. If I gave mine that would be defeating the purpose! But if you need clarification, how about "total surrender" to a person, belief, feeling, ... or whow's this: "what would you totally surrender to and why?" See, now I feel I've made it a leading question!
Does that make it clear as mud?

Hi to you too, Mame! Long time no see. Had to take a hiatus from the internet for a while, but I'm ba-ack! Usually stick to the fun game threads. Feel like I'm trying to swim with the sharks here!

P.S. If it helps anyone, it's for a psychology course. You can all sigh heavily now...

okay, girl, my answer is "Total surrender is a dangerous thing" and I wouldn't be doing it anytime soon.

Does that help?

Sort of. What does that look like. Surrendering totally to whatever...

What's dangerous about it to you? (just curious)
I'm really glad to see you around here, Mame Smile

I don't think I have ever been one to totally seurrender to anyone or anything.

Partial surrender sucked enough.

I have trouble understanding those that claim "total surrender." It seems like a way of giving away or excusing responsibility more than anything else.

More tomorrow. I have to go to bed before my typing gets any worse.

What's dangerous about it is you put yourself at the mercy of something else and you're not in charge anymore. I don't say "control" because we know we don't have the power to control much, but what we do have charge over we give up when we surrender.

Sometimes we all surrender - to someone's moods, to what life dictates (not much we can do about certain things), but generally, I don't think it's a positive action.

I would imagine that total surrender would be removing oneself from all responsibility, involvement, conscious attention and perhaps caring about whatever it is that they totally surrender to. It would be giving up and giving in. It would be about losing and self respect. It would be the end of the line.

On the other hand. It could be the opposite of all of these things. Depends on one's perspective and state of mind.

That might be a bit more complex. Confused

Totally surrendering to love would not have all of the negative connotations that say, totalling surrendering to the love of desserts would have.

Total surrender to one's faith would not mean that one is devoid of life.

For me, total surrender to anything would require careful thought and analysis and in a sense R.O.I. (not monetarily).

It is not something that I would take lightly.

I can think of the total surrender upon orgasm -- the total surrender of mind, body and spirit. That moment in time when you don't know whether or not to laugh, cry or pray you don't vaporize!

surrender: to open yourself up to whatever comes, without defending against it, without longing for it, without fear, without attachment.

Most commonly found in sex or in love, but can be spiritual as well.
