@devriesj,
Hello Yabber Darlings...

I am tired. Long day ...the Prof and my S boy have been home sick today - I had to stay home from work to take care for them.

But I am feeling much better - they have picked up a stomach virus somewhere - nasty things.

It is cold but no snow and no hope of seeing any - the only thing I can hope is that all this below freezing weather will kill the skeeters.

Dutchy - you can tease all you want - it never bothers me. I know you are a sweety - even if you do make fun of mah bahind Wink

Missing Alex too Izzie - hope all is well with him and his...

Iz - how are you today? ((Izzie))

((JPB))

Hope all the rest of you Yabbererers are doing great...
hugs to you all...
mis

Hi dev! Plenty of snow in the Chicago area, probably even more where JPB lives (a remote area in Illinois where they recently introduced electricity). Smile

@mismi,
heh -- yeah.

Some folks I know are planning a nationwide "spring walk" as a fundraiser for a charitable cause. They picked late March, early April for possible times. I laughed and told them we're still shoveling snow here in late March, early April. That, and that's "spring break" season here --- when everyone goes south to take a break from waiting for spring.

I don’t believe it…I started my introduction with: Hello Yabber Darlings...
Now everybody will think I copied it from Missy, and I will forever be dammed as a plagiarist!

This looks so bad coming after the song I wrote for a onetime mutual friend; he passed it off as his and unbeknown to me got Missy to sing it as a tryout…well, I am sure you know the rest!

However, the ‘blame’ for yesterdays post lies squarely at the door of MM. How come I hear y’all shout in unison; the answer is simple…He posted the funny cartoon about Barnacle Bill the sailor, and I only posted the words used in the movie. In addition I think Wandel must have changed his name for that of our dear friend Dutchy…How does he do that?

I was greatly amused to read JPB writing, “pssst ---- izzie said, "y'all"..heheheh

While "y'all" is actually a contraction for "you all," it is most commonly used in place of the plural form of "you." "All y'all" or "all of y'all," on the other hand, is generally used in place of "you all."

For example...
When speaking to two or three people: "Are y'all going to the movies?"
When speaking to several people: "Are all y'all going to the movies?"
Things are further complicated when using the possessive form of the word.

For example...
Is this y'all's car?"
or
"Is this all y'all's favorite color?"
Note, there is some debate on the spelling of the possessive form of y'all. Some will spell it "y'all's" while others will spell it "y'alls." As there does not seem to be an official answer, it is a matter of personal preference. However, with perseverance I do believe we will soon have Izzie writing perfect Engerlish!

I wonder how Bathy is doing; it’s been a while!

To all the rest of the crew, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do…Which effectively restricts you to the limits of your imagination!

Auf Wiedersehen.

I'M BAAAAAAACK!!

I apologize for my prolonged AWOL status, and throw myself on the mercy of the court.
It has been an interesting, to say the least, few days.
We lost power last tuesday (Jan 27), and didnt get it back till sunday (Feb 1)afternoon.
Stacy and Cody went to stay at her daughter Laura's house, and I went to the emergency shelter at Morganfield Elementary School to charge the battery on my fire dept radio.
When I got there, I got drafted to help out.
It turned out that our whole fire dept was drafted, we ended up running the whole shelter.

So from tuesday to saturday, we worked our butts off, caring for about 175 people every night.
For the first 3 days, I got a total of about 7 hours sleep.
On friday, we got some help from some volunteers that showed up, so we could get some sleep.
On Wed, Stacy and Cody went and stayed at her brother Jasons house, he had a generator running for electricity.

While they stayed there, I continued to work at the shelter.
On saturday, we started a complete countywide check of each house, knocking on doors and making sure that people were ok.
That tool us till sunday afternoon.
After that, we were able to come home because our power was restored, but since the temp had been in the low teens (13-15 fahrenheit), it took most of the night for the house to warm up.
I went back to work monday, and am still working at the shelter at night.
It will stay open until the last person goes home.
We got our internet back sometime today, so this is the first chance I have had to get on here and report in.

Here is the report from the local paper about the storm...
http://www.ucadvocate.com/articles/stories/public/200902/04/4FRR_local_news.html

And here are a couple more local stories about the storm...
http://www.ucadvocate.com/articles/sections/main/index.shtml

Anyhow, I am now back on line, and hope that all of you will show mercy on me for my prolonged absence.

@Tryagain,
Hey Yabber Darlings... Mr. Green

so..................

Y'all k?????????????

Funny 'ole thing:

A YAWL (from Dutch Jol) is a two-masted sailing craft similar to a sloop or cutter but with an additional mIZZen mast well aft of the main mast, often right on the transom. A small MIZzen sail is hoisted on the mizzen mast.

The yawl was originally developed as a rig for commercial fishing boats, one good example of this being the Salcombe Yawl (a traditional small fishing boat built in Devon). In its heyday, the rig was particularly popular with single-handed sailors, such as circumnavigators Joshua Slocum and Francis Chichester. This was largely due to the remarkable ability of a yawl to be trimmed to follow a compass course accurately despite minor wind shifts. Modern self-steering and navigation aids have made this less important, and the yawl has generally fallen out of favor.

In the 1950s and 60s yawls were developed for ocean racing to take advantage the handicapping rule that did not penalize them for flying a mizzen staysail, which on long ocean races, often down wind, were a great advantage, the best example of this being Olin Stephens' Finisterre.

Who knew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

(((((Blue))))) - c'mere 'n hug!

So..... this mizzen staysail is flying! Got a bunch of acks going on but... it will pass no doubt.

Hoping all are doing well.

Missy - great to see ya gal and hope that the Professor and S feel better soon. Dev - how's your girlie doing? She any better? And Vegemite - how are you tonite?

Good to see y'all onboad our "yawl" and hoping our missing crew will come back soon....

Alex........ where is our Alex?.... I miss him and his stories. I miss his snowy bench, his pickles, his food, his 11 new trees, his pumpkin and his boids - and seeing him here. I hope he and Mrs24 are alright. Sad

Gonna have a look around and see what's what...

Lovin' y'all. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

ching! Wink we'll make it.

Howdy!
I still have one home sick - little S ran a fever all night and still has a low grade one. I am not sure what he has picked up...thought it was a stomach bug - but no symptoms of that really - headache and a tummy ache....everybody has something down here it seems. I couldn't even find a sub for myself at work yesterday....The Prof however seems to be feeling better..so that is good.

I do wonder how Bathy is doing....you are in our thoughts girl. Hope you are okay..prayers and thoughts are with you.

I may be back later...will try. Wink hugs to all
