@JPB,
ooooooooooooooooof

shake me and i rattle

7 horsepills, umpteen painkillers, probiotics...

feel as tho I am going down with something, kinda coldy, very, very tired; don't have a fever tho but i never get fevers Razz (i iz ice)

my foot doesn't feel quite so tight which is good and i can lower it without being shrilly and screechy and even put it on the floor without it feeling like it's going to explode - still red, swollen, pitting - but it's different now, lots of sharp quick stabbing pains - i think more like nerve stabs

only a teeny patch on the white patch

less effing and blinding in the house, so that's gotta be a good sign

(only 3 mice to chase and catch today Rolling Eyes blessed kitties!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrr)

@ehBeth,

I read the Wikipedia page on this.

Extreme pain with this condition is extremely serious. Izzy, don't spare the docs.

@ehBeth,
Hey Letty, thanks for song, rattling, not rolling

Bethie - oh, believe me, i'm taking this seriously - the hospital on Saturday were very explicit in what can happen and how quickly, especially with my immune system and meds - i've also been looking on the internet to see how long this usually lasts etc and the info there is ... shocking

Margo put me in the picture with a few things too, so i know taking this seriously on 'here' is as important to me as to others listening to me, you in particular Beth

i have to weigh up what i have to do and what can be left - mice running around at the moment is not an option but they are easy enough to catch - however, the kitchen door is now closed so if the kitties bring in anything else, it will just be deposited in there and not the lounge - dishes and cups piling up on the table beside me, no priority at all

of course going to the loo... can't be done on one foot and because i'm using the crutches, my hands and right shoulder are messed up - that's huge effort - i've been told to drink loads and loads... of course, that means more trips - but the loo is only a few steps away

i didn't cook, just zapped some pasta tomato bake in the microwave (yuk)and have a stool to sit on in the kitchen

i am laying on the sofa - going a little stir crazy, i think that's why i'm so tired, can't stop yawning - have a thermos of cold milk, kettle etc beside the sofa

not sure what to tell the doc when he phones in the morning, guess i will just have to wait and see how much / if it improves overnight, it's definitely not as "hot" or as tight, the wound is covered so i can't see what's happening with that and the red area is well defined - have a fever scan next to me and checking my temp each hour, they told me that would be one of the first indicative signs of further problems so... keeping a close check on that

i don't want surgery tomorrow... so, will keep laying here, feet up and ... ya know, try and pass time

the pain is definitely less than Saturday, but the painkillers really do help

just so frustrated that this is happening and how quickly it occured.

@Izzie,
Morning Izzie, the Bosun just been for his early morning walk through the tribal lands, it was a breeze compared to a month ago. So grateful what the modern medicine world has done for me, keep hoping they can do the same for you. Listen to the good and well meant advice from the girls here and you'll be as right as rain before long, even with your feet displaying all the colours of the rainbow at the moment. Smile Heaps of vibes coming your way from downunder. (((Izzie)))

I'm ignorant of your medical world there, Iz. Do you have paramedics? Not that they know this stuff, much as I appreciate some of them in my family.

I'm increasingly uncomfortable with your not being hospital watched, but I can see your view, and also the point that the hospital isn't a fail safe world. How far is your doc away?

@ossobuco,
Thanks (((((BEAgle))))

yep Osso, we can 999 paramdeics anytime night or day or call a GP out to the home - this is the NHS. The problem I had on saturday was my operation was done on private health insurance and the NHS is reluctant to treat people who have had private care as they could not get hold of him or my notes. He apologised a lot for that as he should have been available.

My surgeon is about 20 miles away - usually takes 45 mins from here to the hospital. The private hospital is opposite the NHS hospital. NHS would treat me if emergency. My surgeon is away from Wed - Friday this week so he's a little concerned about that.

Have had my final food and drink now just in case I need to go in tomorrow. Wish i could sleep.

@Izzie,
Thanks, I understand better now.

I'm sorry you're alone, kid.
Although not alone has its own set of problems sometimes.
OK, we're here.

Don't fight about going into hospital!

Surpprised they didn't admit you already. I'd be arguing for it. IV antibiotics are starting to sound a good thing (from here)

This sort of infection can be brutal. You may grizzle about the infection - how much grizzling if you lose the leg? (Be interesting climbing up Snowdon, not impossible, but interesting!)

@margo,
My one and only long hospital stay was as a roomie to a guy fighting not to lose his leg to cellulitis. (from a spider bite)

serious shite...

Izzy, since your surgeon will be away the last part of the week, please be sure that they change the bandages when you see him again tomorrow. Also, you/they need to arrange for someone to change the bandages for you again later in the week. Keeping the bandages fresh is one of the more important steps in fighting the infection.

The ooze from that wound is highly contagious stuff. You don't want the animals, kids or other people anywhere near it, especially if they also have open wounds or like to lick. Frequently wash your hands and any clothing and bed linens it may ooze upon.

Do they have you applying hot compresses to it?

Any chance of a visiting nurse making the rounds every couple of days to help you?

@Izzie,
hope you're getting some rest, Iz.

Crossing fingers that the infection is lessening and the swelling is down some more by morning.

Aha.. Private medicine vs the NHS

Now a little clearer.

Izzie whether the NHS are reluctant or not, when you need help, you need it. This is what I pay my NI for. So Izzie can get help when she needs it.

Don't spare the medics. Make plenty of fuss. It's the creaky hinge that gets the oil. We're with you, your motley crew, blunderbusses and cutlasses at the ready!

@McTag,
hey hey

swelling is down quite a bit and much less red and hot, stabbing pains still there but otherwise ok

no worries Butrfly - no kids or any folk here so can't pass on to anyone and the wound is covered since oozing - kitties don't go anywhere near my feet and dawgs are still over at my parents

they didn't tell me to do hot compresses... but quite honestly, i couldnt put anything on my foot at all when it was that hot.

Back to hospital this afternoon so he can look at it before he goes away and change the dressings. Spoke to him about the IV antibiotics - he said he'd prefer me to persevere with the oral ones.

tearful today

thanks all...

Yes this is very good news.

Please do not hesitate to call for help, though, Izzie, if anything changes. I see you are paying private insurance -- above and beyond the NHS. I would expect the after care to be "above and beyond" as well. If your surgeon is unavailable for a few days you need to have a number for his Locum, or be sure that the NHS has access to all your records! While you appear to be improving this is all very worrying. (Okay, lecture over, back to our regularly scheduled programming...)
