Hello Friends,

I am looking forward to the education opportunities in US and AUS. I have done BE Mechanical and have worked with an Automotive firm for more than 4 years.

I have got admit letter from Boston College, MA, US for the MA program. Additionally, I am keen on Unsays Masters in Technology Management program (Avg work expo for MA is quite high).

I would like your opinions on the programs and life style in both places and also about the post course job opportunities. So keep the words flowing and help me make a well informed decision.

So - where does Sydney fit into this equation? It'd be a hell of a commute to Boston.

I can't comment sensibly about the programme you're undertaking, as against whatever is similar in Sydney, because I don't know.

Can't really comment on lifestyle differences, either, as I've never been to Boston.

I'm happy to try and answer any questions otherwise.

Sydney is not a bad place to live - and it never snows (Been reading about the weather extremes in Boston!)

Thanks a lot Margo!!!

I have been using this forum a lot to educate myself on life in Sydney and it has given me more than expected.

My question would be about getting a job opportunities in Sydney in the technical arena. I would also like to understand if a forgeign national can get a job easily after his Grads in UNSW?

Got me there!

Getting a job depends on your immigration status. This depends to some extent on whether you have skills we need. I can't answer that.

Have a look at the Department of Immigration site: http://www.immi.gov.au/

Have a look at mycareer.com.au, or seek.com.au, to give you some idea of employment.

Don't look at the weather. In a country stricken by drought for years, Sydney has it's own personal little black cloud lately Confused

I am already following up onthe sites mentioned by you. However, to be more clear about what I was referring to can I get a decent job after doing a course in UNSW?

Also, can you please guide me about the information on lifestyle in Sydney?

I know neither Sydney nor Boston at all well, so why am I responding? Just to suggest you correspond directly with the departments at the different universities - and try to get them to be specific re grads and jobs.

Also, I'll 'pm' Dagmaraka for you, as she has some experience in these matters in Boston, although in an entirely different academic field, in case she would feel that she could help with Boston and grad/immigration information.

I know nothing about the technical field you are in, but I do know that Boston College is a top notch school, with a lovely campus and a great library. I know the humanities fields and they rank high in those, unfortunately I don't know how they do on technology stuff.... You can find university rankings by field online, I'm sure. But the place itself is really nice -large green campus, stone buildings, good ice cream place nearby...

Did you apply to MIT or elsewhere in Boston as well? Are you deciding between different schools, or just whether to accept BC admission?

NEW! U.S. - Australia Student Work and Travel Pilot Program

The Student Work and Holiday Pilot Program announced by President Bush and Prime Minister Howard in September went into effect October 31, 2007.

The program, which allows American and Australian post-secondary students and recent graduates to work and travel in Australia or the U.S. for up to one year, further strengthens the cultural and personal ties between our two nations. Although Australia has similar arrangements with other countries, this is the first program of its kind for the United States.

Interested Australian participants must first secure sponsorship from an approved exchange organization. The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has initially approved the following sponsoring organizations:

* Burroughs and Chapin Company
* Camp Counselors USA/Work Experience USA
* Council on International Educational Exchange
* International Branch, YMCA of Greater New York
* International Cultural Exchange Organization, Inc.
* Intrax Work/Travel

Further information on program sponsorship for the Student Work and Travel Pilot and other J-1 exchange visitor programs is available on the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs Website.

Please see our nonimmigrant visa page for general information on the U.S. visa application process, including how to apply for a U.S. visa in Aus

Hi dagmarka,

Yes Boston College is one of the best schools in US. I have secured an admit in the MBA program at Boston College. I have read a lot about the beautiful Boston campus.

I have only applied for Boston College in that area and was looking across the course offered by UNSW. Can you please tell me more about UNSW and Sydney? I am more focussed on Sydney at this time since I would like to get a good job at the end of the course. As I said I am deciding between UNSW and Boston College course so any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Ndeo, I visited it in 1950 and in 1969. For many reasons including my A2K friends who live there, my family connection, and my interest in park design and general urban design, I'd like to see Boston again.

Much better cricket matches in Melbourne.

It doesn't rain all the time like it does in Sydney

Sydney is a homogonised city.
Melbourne has a rich diversity of cultures.

Melbourne is less expensive.

Proper football.

I really can't answer your questions about employment after graduation from UNSW. It's not my area of expertise at all. BUT - it does depend on your immigration status.

You would need to correspond with the relevant faculties to clarify the job situation after graduation.

Unfortunately, I'm the only person here from Sydney at present!
