The Girl found a DVD of Le nozze di Figaro for me. I've been enjoying it.

Between recording sessions, Glenn Gould discovers that you can combine "God Save the Queen" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" into a quodlibet. The term "quodlibet" is classical-speak for "remix". Anyway, I find the result fascinating.

(If you can't hear the Star-Spangled banner, try concentrating on the pianist's left hand. It's a middle voice, closer to the baseline than to the melody.)

@Thomas,
Clever! It reminds me of this medley by Peter Schiekle, which consists of Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik overlaid with snippets of other pieces:

The snippets I'm able to identify:
- "Do Your Ears Hang Low"
- Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1
- Brahms's Symphony No. 3
- "La ci darem" from Mozart's Don Giovanni
- "Voi che sapete" from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro
- Elgar's Enigma Variations
- a Haydn trumpet concerto whose number I forget
- Beethoven's Symphony No. 8
- Dvorak's Symphony No. 9
- Brahms's Symphony No. 4
- Beethoven's Symphony No. 5
- Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9
- Chaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite
- "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"
- "O Susannah"
- Rossini's William Tell Overture
- Schubert's March militaire
- Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite
- "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"
- Franck's Symphony in D Minor (I think... I'm totally having a brain lapse with the French horn part at 6:50)
- Stravinsky's Petrushka
- Chaikovsky's Symphony No. 4
- "Galop infernal" from Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers
- Strauss's Til Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche

(p.s. I was able to confirm that it is indeed Franck's D Minor Symphony quoted at 6:50. It was driving me crazy.)
