If their extinction were caused by man - I say yes. Mammoth, the dodo etc.

Yep - all of them that we can get - it would be interesting. One tends to assume it's steady 'improvement' over time, or saw toothed with things like mass extinctions, and that would tend to be the overall trend, but that's not guaranteed.

I wonder how many lost species would displace modern ecological equivalents if given a chance or how many of them were more complex without the sacrifice of elegance. Then again with cock-fights illegal in all states, how much fun could we have? Might not be worth it.

Yes. It's unlikely that anything we brought back could survive in the wild again (because most go extinct because their environment has changed), but a few (like the passenger pigeon), might do ok if people didn't shoot them, and others would make good domesticated zoo animals.

I would like to bring back the American Chestnut tree also.

Why?

If man is simply another product of evolution, then why should man be singled out as if his actions were somehow 'invalid' and need correcting?

I think that the concept is one of MERCY;
that our ancestors
were not as kind to them as thay shud have been;
that thay shud not have driven them into extinction... a rather extreme thing to do.
