Please help me somebody.........
Since I moved to a new house last March I have been unable to play a large selection of music files from my library in Windows Media Player.
I have spent many many hours downloading these tunes (legally) and I'm very upset that I can't access them anymore.
When I click on the file to play it, I either get a box coming up that says :-
"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed or deleted."
Some of the songs will play. It appears to be completely random. I have played the songs before in Windows Media Player so I just can't understand why they wont play now.
I have definitely not deleted any of them.
Please can anybody tell me what's going on???
A few friends have tried to sort it out after telling me that they know what to do but they don't.
what version of WMP are you using?
might be time to upgrade...
How do I tell what version it is RP?
DP,
click the Help menu
click "About Windows Media Player"
that tells you what version it is.
i recently downloaded v11.0.5721.5230, and it works great for music and film clips...
That appears to be the version that I've got........
......I know.............fed up.........
going to bed to cry myself to sleep.
Thanks anyway RP
Goodnight.
The first thing to check is to see if you can find the files.
If you added or removed a drive during the move the drive letter for the files may be incorrect in WMP.
If you right click on a file in the WMP library you can see what the location is supposed to be. Then do a search of your computer for the file. I suspect you will find the drive letter is wrong in the library.
If that is the case then just have WMP search your computer to find files.
It might be a good idea to delete your library before the search but I don't know if you need to.
Hey, how come she gets help in a flash while I had to send my computer to some geek who charged me a buttload to get it fixed? That whole vigin in need thing is getting old. Meh, waddayagonnado--
Anywho: Screw WMP and install VLC media player. It's free and requires a lot less powah' from your computah'.
Thanks guys.
Checked the location of the files that wont play in "properties". This gave a location but when I checked there, couldn't find them.
