Difference between Pentium 4 & D?

What's the difference between a Pentium 4 and D? I'm confused because my Pentium 4 reads in my system like it's also got a dual core?

Some single-core Pentium 4s have "hyperthreading technology" which makes them seem have 2 virtual processors. Perhaps you have one of those, but since you do not say what model it is we cannot say.
