Let 's take a poll
on stem cell research.

I favor the advance of science thru stem cell research
for cures of all possible diseases.
Government shud support this advance of science.

Agree or not ?

I agree. Although I haven't pondered long and hard on why it would be a the wrong thing to do. It seems stem cells can help people with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's so it ought to be explored. I believe the hesitation comes from embryo stem cells.

I 'd not have put it exactly that harshly,
but the essence of 29's position is correct.

Thay argue that the stem cells
( which were headed for the garbage, anyway )
can be used to produce a man.

( I don 't believe that 's much of an argument. )

True, but in R.Reagan's remaining days his superficial-not-so-interesting wife came out in favor of stems cell research. Prior to his illness this would not have happend.

Good.

I don't think that cells should be grown in order to do research (ie, create babies for that purpose only) but umbilical cords are loaded with stem cells and should be used.

I think that it is vitally important to continue studying stem cells as a means of dealing with various illness. IMO, the brouhaha against using embryonic stem cells is simply a red herring dreamed up by the ultra religious. Those groups, over time, have historically been against anything that would take the mystery out of the human condition, and thereby decrease their hold on the people.

The more that one knows about the workings of the universe, the less one subscribes to "fairy tales". The more that one understands, the less that they ascribe natural happenings to one god or another, causing the religious hierarchy to lose power.

No matter how you slice it, it is still religious jockying for power that motivates this entire stem cell debate.
