I need to find out if I can put a mechanic's lien on the property I currently rent. My landlord has decided to sell at the last minute, not giving me a minute of concern and has had an attorney send me a letter stating I must be out by January 1 as I agreed or they will take me to court. I never agreed to be out by January 1 and my lease is not up until March 08. The only discrepancy is the landlord agreed to waive my rent if I would allow the house to be shown....I agreed to this but only after January 1 when my children & grandchildren have returned to their homes in another state. I have gone so far now as to cancel everyone's trip to my house & to disappoint my grandchildren but I cannot have them here when she is causing trouble & threatening me. She has turned everything around on me now & is trying to get me out by the 1st because I didn't pay December's rent, although she agreed to that and any subsequent months even past my lease date just to keep someone in the house until it sold. I have done many repairs & even put in a new sod yard so I would like to recover some of the time & money put into upgrading her property. I want to put a lien against the property so she cannot sell it until I release it. I don't consider it revenge, I consider it justice for the renter who has cared for the property as if it were her own. I live in California and have tried to find how & where to file or even if I can but can't get a definitive answer. I guess I am soon to be homeless as she has threatened the sheriff will remove me so I certainly cannot afford an attorney, so if someone has any advice or can point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.

But you're asking for legal advice, which is against our Terms of Service. If you cannot afford an attorney, contact Legal Services in your area.

Thanks for the suggestion & sorry to have bothered the masses. I certainly did not mean to break any terms or conditions & didn't realize my query was asking for legal advice but rather where I could go on the internet to find further information. I have contacted the local legal services & have left numerous messages with no assistance or appointment. I'll just dismiss myself from your "forum" as I see this is no place to get help or information.
