Is It Safe To Open This E-Mail?

I checked my (Hotmail) in box today and there is an e-mail from a female name that I do not recognize. It looks like it has been forwarded to me. The subject reads "A Very Serious Warning".

I didn't open it as I've heard that viruses and other bad things can come disguised as emails and I have been having problems with viruses.

I have not done anything bad that I am aware of and I can't think what it could be.

Is it safe to open it to have a look what it's all about?

Many thanks.

DP

If you don't know who it is, delete it. It can't be important if you don't know the sender.

Exactly. If I hear from a member of one of several forums i participate in, I will wonder why they didn't use the pm system.

If you use Outlook Express (possibly other programmes, as well) there is a method that I believe is safe:

Single left click on mouse to highlight email
Right click on mouse to open a menu
At the bottom of the menu is "properties"
Left click on properties, which will bring up a window with 2 tabs -- "general" & "details". Open the details tab.
At the bottom of the details tab window is a "message source" button, click on it.
Now you'll have a small window with all the computerese gobbledygook -- but you will be able to scroll through it to find the sender (if they've somehow signed it) and the message itself. Graphics & photos will not appear, however.
Then you may be able to determine if it's someone you know, or something that you should open.
