Does anyone know of a simple free software tool that will allow me to
put together a simple map, like for example: 'A road map of a housing estate'?
I'm not talking about one of the many elaborate 'trial' versions that's around which will occupy up to 100mg on my hard drive, and does not make for easy use, just something simple!

google maps or mapquest don't do what you need?

Ticomaya, thanks but, No, Google Maps or Mapquest,
apart from commercial software, don't seem to any
simple solutions
What about Google Earth?
I guess I don't really understand what it is exactly you're trying to do with the software.

Just some sort of program that I can use to assemble lines together, both vertical and horizontal joined to each other to form a small network of roads, as in a local housing estate.
Sorry if I'm not making myself very clear,

Okay, you want streets to be represented by lines. I'm not aware of that kind of program, but hopefully someone else has an idea for you.
Are you trying to build a map from scratch? (make your own)

You've got it exactly right!!

I have done it in Microsoft Publisher. I would guess there is something better, however.

I found an old copy of 'Serif Page Plus 5' which I think might work for me.
Thanks for all who contributed suggestions.
