How do I file a lien against a business?

I am an independent contractor and I am owed nearly $20,000 in unpaid invoices by a small hotel. The hotel is in financial trouble and I have been advised to get a lien against them before they foreclose. How do I do this and will I be protected if the business declares bankruptcy?
