This one is five chubby stars.

1958, Newport Jazz Festival. Wonderful shots of the crowd. And, possibly the best jazz vocal performance ever, by Anita O'day. This performance put her on the cover of Time. No need to mention the heroin part of the story.

I have just been alerted to this thread.

I'm not ideally placed just at this moment to read the whole thread as I have just returned from the pub. With a few notes.

Remembering things is not easy if they don't connect to anything tomorrow. Keep a clean head, always carry a lightbulb and don't forget a pen. There's plenty paper in the average pub.

So Ring Them Bells in Okinawa is a must. For now.

Are you getting that 'scripted windows' pop-up message up top beneath your menu bar?

Wonderful. That's from the 2004 Crossroads Guitar Festival. Last night, I finally got around to watching the next iteration (2007 festival) and sat enthusiastically glued through four hours worth of incredible music. Order up the two DVD set. Much to taste here... http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=crossroads+2007

I'm guessing it's the result of a security update.

I've never been an Aerosmith fan, I confess, but that's a wonderful video, and a good little song.

ps.... that video wouldn't have appeared on MTV without cutting the nipple that briefly appears. The fellow who owns Canada's version of MTV (MuchMusic) once talked about the differences in Canada and US censorship of music videos. He made a somewhat true comment on the odd moral inversion more common in the US..."In American music videos, the only way a nipple might be on display is if there is a bullet associated with it."

That's one of my favorite recent recordings by Zimmie. Astonishing lyrics, as always, and with a wonderfully complimentary arrangement that adds an increasing layering of instruments and melodic lines on top of the strong and constant rythmn.

My niece sings with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. But I'm such an ignoramus about this music form that I'm not sure what I ought to find funny there. The accordianist's passion? The girls at the end who throw up their arms like the tarts in the old three ring circus acts?

Carl Orff never scored this for a Zydeco version of Oh Fortuna. He was going for the "dirty old Monks" routine and needed something with a bit more bass reflex.

The definition of an optimist is an Accordion player with a beeper.

"Zydeco version". Now that's funny. As is the beeper gag.

Tip of the hat for helping my deficient operatic knowledge along. My niece, following upon numerous excuses (Damn, Megan! What a lousy coincidence. That's the same night I promised to bring the pressure washer over to grandma's to clean her false teeth. Damn. Let me know your next performance and don't forget!") well...possibly my niece is beginning to think I don't like opera at all.
