And far be it from me to bring politics into every discussion, but a recent poll turned up a rather interesting result ...

Over 90% of conservatives said they never enjoy reggae, electronic music or Latin music. Over 95% said they never enjoy world music and punk music.

Which comfortably explains why I like five out of every 100 conservatives.

Yeah ... far be it for you ..... most of the music on my IPOD is Robert Nesta Marley, I'll have you know. And I really like Geoffrey Oryema and a lot of other "world music."

You're like a five minute Youssou N'Dour performance in the middle of the Hannity show. Well, maybe you are the whole show, but with that good bit included.

Karel Kryl. Czech singer/songwriter's first concert in free Czechslovakia after the revolution that toppled communism in 1989.

Morituri te salutant and two other songs. It's almost 11minutes long...

There are no words to describe how his music still makes me feel. We used to have smuggled tapes copied in the basements, listen along in secret.... and then he was on a big stage, bigger than life, and we were almost choking on freedom. powerful stuff.

Having this performance put in historical context, and watching the young people in the audience, and hearing his really very lovely voice...it got me crying a bit. I come from a long line of wimps. It's not my fault.

And I think I posted that same duet you did, Blatham
Not quite sure how I missed that but I did. Doh.

A bunch of my buddies saw Queen but I missed out.

I particularly liked the I Want To Break Free video you linked. You know, I'd probably listen to a lot more christian rock if it had those sorts of visuals and costumes.

I love this thread - thank you, Blatham.

I went to find a Callas recording I like, found it, and saw a bunch of people who know their opera voices do a basic dump on her doing Gluck. Live and loin, as Roberta would say. But here, this makes me cry... even if her B's aren't 'solid'.

Then I spent an hour listening to some italian singer songwriters.. (haven't picked just the right piece yet, probably a Fabrizio de Andre..) - and the day flies by.

It's a promise.

A musician I met had co-written a song with his lyricist and they thought it might be right for Stewart so they got in touch with his manager who charged them a grand cash just to listen to a three minute tape. They wouldn't have even gotten that far if they hadn't had a significant track record already. They got lucky on this one...he recorded it and it took off..."The Rhythm of My Heart".

Our thread has been sullied.

Actually though, I thought Shatner's performance in the Nuremburg Trials was rather good.

Yeah, I saw Diva forever ago - weirdly this bit is the only thing I remember about it. It was memorable because my mother loved opera but I never understood why, until that movie. I can't even remember what it was actually about. CRAFTS disease.
