I wrote this after building my granddaughter (8yrs old) a cedar chest. I put the poem on a thin piece of cedar then mounted it inside the lid. The poem was signed and dated.
The last thing I done for you
When building this cedar chest
Was filling it with loving hugs
Big ones, Grandpa's best
There will come a time in your life
When Grandpa's here no more
To give you hugs in person
That's what these are for.
So, when you need some comfort
Or life's got you full of doubt
Just open up this cedar lid,
Reach in and take one out.
It's an absolutely beautiful gesture and statement...no need to comment further....
