How can I re-number a list using Microsoft Word? For example lets say I have a numbered list of ten items and I insert a new item after #5 and want the reamainder of the list to be re-numbered to reflect the addition to the list.

What I just did as a reminder for myself before writing the instructions was this:

Made a list of 6 words, then highlight that list of words and click the numbering button in the menu tool bar.

This numbers the items.

I then went back, placed my cursor at the end of item number 3 in the list and hit enter and then typed the additional item. This inserted a new line and renumbered the list.

That worked for both a single and double spaced list.

If you don't have numbering on the toolbar, you can right click on the highlighted selection and select numbers from the numbers and bullets there.
