Reply Sun 25 Nov, 2007 11:47 am
Having lost the larger acreage parcels(India, Australia, Canada,South AFrica) The British Empire has dwindled down to a bunch of islands (many are uninhabited) Anybody have a tally list of the Present British Empire, and does the sun nNOt set on the empire?

Oops -- something's not working properly (probably me). Well, you can copy/paste it into your browser.

Yeah, the sun has set on it. We have the Commonweath now, a kind of Rotary Club of nations.

Most former colonies have turned out well, but there are concerns about Uganda and the USA.

In the Indian Ocean we have Diego Garcia which we have leased to the USA as an airbase. Long lease, no questions asked.

lease is up in 2009 I believe. We shall, with the help of the French NAvy, eject you from the entire Indian Ocean Protectorate. I would rather we turn the entire archipelago back into the "Oil Islands" , maybe coconut oil fuel could be the next big thing

you can usually count on canada as being on the side of the british -
as long as you are willing to forget about SUEZ
hbg

you can thank good old MIKE (pearson) for keeping canada out of suez - except for being in the NATO contingent in suez later on

and PET (pierre elliot trudeau) had the audacity to change ROYAL MAIL to CANADA POST - many members of the MONARCHIST LEAGUE OF CANADA still haven't forgiven him for that

Land of hope and glory, mother of the free
How can we extol thee
Who were born of thee?

Wider still and wider, shall thy bounds be set
God, who made thee mighty,
Make thee mightier yet!
God, who made thee mighty,
Make thee mightier yet.

The English stole Gib fair and square, FM, so they don't have to give it back. Anyhoo, it's a smuggler's paradise--the locals would be crazy to give up such a haven for criminality, when it's protected by the Royal Navy, be it never so humble and shabby.

when I was there it was just a commercial shipyard. Not much "royal NAvy" presence. Kinda gritty with a few monkies on the rocks. I wasnt so impressed with "The Pillars of Hercules". I think they oughta sell it to the Arabs, or the Chinese Very Happy .

Sell it to the Chinese, they'll leap at the chance to get a foothold in Europe. Of course, their principle assets are American IOUs for trillions of dollars . . .
