Age of mythology for war game, and for shooter, Battlefield 1942, or the halflife mod Day of Defeat.
Empire Earth is a great strategy game, and hard as hell.
BF 1942, great game, but only if u have a really good computer and internet connection.
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. Altough I hated the movies and such, the game was rather... dare I say it? ... Fun. It was a gift from a friend, and my first and only Star Trek game, but it was fun. I would consider buying a few others, but there is just to many. To many of a good thing can be quite bad.
I take that back.
Best Game Ever: Alien VS. Predator.
Call Of Duty is an excellent FPS.
Red Faction is always fun to play as well.
I only have the demo of Call of duty but sofar the game is AWESOME. I can't stop playing it. Another game i suggest is Unreal tournament i only have the demo on that one but it is really COOL.
Unreal Tournmanet 2004, for PC. Awesome fps.

Shogun was Great
medieval was amazing
Rome Looks spectacular
as for FPS games, there is another thread I posted that stuff in.
Rise of Nations
Rise of Nations is also quite nice, a kind of combination of Civilisation and Age of Empires, but with more ages and more empires to choose from. The Germans and the Russians are, as could be expected, quite tough to beat.
The expansion pack "Thrones and Patriots" also includes the US and the Dutch as playable nations.
Notably absent are playable nations from the Indian subcontinent. I wonder why.
