Peripherals not working

Am I ever in trouble! My printer (Canon Pixma iP4200) won't print; my scanner (Epson Perfection 2540 Photo) won't scan; and my CD/DVD (D drive) won't work.

This is a new and disturbing situation - everything was working fine this morning. My AV and AdAware are up to date.

I'm trying to rip some CDs, then transfer the material to my MP3, but although I got the first CD of the series into Windows Media Player, I (1) can't get the computer to play it ; and (2) can't rip the next one - I keep getting the instruction that I must put a disc in the drive, but there IS a disc in the drive.

I hope there hasn't been some horrible virus attack, but I do wonder at this wholesale malfunctioning.

If they are all USB devices, try shutting the PC down, powering all of the devices down, unplugging and then reconnecting AC power to everything including the PC then after about 2 mins bringing it all back up again...
