malelec- Welcome to A2K! Very Happy

Here is a place to start:

You also might want to go to the Dell support webpage and see if they have any reference to installing graphics cards.

Thankyou Pheonix I followed the link as you sugested and found the info.
useful. I had visited the DELL site and also rang them but they led me to believe I could not do it. Was this just vested interest or what.

malelec- I don't know about your computer (I have a Dell 8300), but you need to get all your "ducks in a row" before you attempt to put in a graphics card. My husband and I have a great deal. I am chairman in charge of software, and he handles the hardware.

Anyhow, we wanted to add some RAM a while back. When he opened the computer, the way that the ram was situated was not exactly like it was shown in the picture of the inside of the computer. He had to figure out things a bit, but it works.

I don't know how old your computer is. I am wondering, if it is under warranty, if opening the case and changing something will void the warranty. My computer was past the warranty, so it really didn't matter.

Of course not. Isn't your old graphics card there already?

I found another site that appears a bit more detailed:

I think that the video card on that model is integrated into the motherboard.

You can install a video card on a computer that has integrated video but if you don't have a free slot then you have to be willing to live without one of the cards presently in your computer.

A quick look at the Dell technical manual says you have 3 PCI slots.

Can you tell what is presently in the slots. The cables are connected to the back of those cards should give you some idea what they are. It looks like video, sound and NIC are all on the motherboard so I have no clue what PCI cards you would presently have.

Here is how to install PCI cards

But if you want to run a high end graphics card you might be better off getting a new computer.
