My friends and I have recently had this peculiar debate about love scenes in movies, I don't know how we began to talk about it but anyway, are the love scenes in certain movies real? i myself have always believed they were fake, but a couple of my friends have pointed out Monster's Ball and Original Sin as some movies that have "real scenes". I was a little shocked, and it made me think twice about certatin actors.....which has led me to ask this question right now. Are they real!!!??
Hi Tokyo, welcome to A2K. Haven't seen or heard of either of those movies (I don't get out to movies much and don't rent them).
Not sure what you are defining as "love scenes." Are you defining it as a scene with heavy necking and groin grinding or one that shows the actual physical action of intercourse?
One thing to keep in mind is that many actors and actresses use body doubles for their nude scenes. So, what you think is them, really is their body double.
Also, if the acting is good, it is doing what it is supposed to do...allowing you to emerse yourself into the scene and forget that you are watching a movie.
I think Tokyo is talking about the many rumors about particular sex secenes in movies being the real thing. i.e. that the actors and actresses were actually having sex.
I have heard these rumors about many films. Especially when "real life" couples are involved.
"Eyes wide Shut"? Boring movie. Couldn't get through it, so consequently, I have no idea. Hey, Tokyo. Welcome to A2K.
Real sex? Only on porno.
Real love? Well, I thought the glance of Penelope Cruz in "Vanilla Sky" was quite telling.
Eyes wide Shut was indeed boring. I hated it.
Anywho to answer your question:
We may never know but I'm banking on no. If the scenes were real it might change the film's rating or generate very negative publicity. Since the rumours are already enough to captitalize on any possible publicity taht would be positive I think that if it happens we won't see positive confirmation from those who really know.
My gut says no, since films are shot differently than pR0n it wouldn't amke much sense. But I betcha there have been close calls.
Welcome, Tokyo and I'm wondering if you aren't also referring to whether or not there is any chemistry between the lovers on screen. In "Monster's Ball," the chemistry appeared quite real. That's been a critical point with all films that include love scenes -- whether the actors have done their job and you actually believe they're in love. If, as Craven suspects, you are addressing whether there is any real sexual involvement on screen between the two actors, not much of a chance of that. The SAG rules preclude that (porno stars are seldom membes of SAG). You can even refuse nudity and if the producers of a film fire your because of that, they could be taking an awful chance with SAG and a direct lawsuit. In answer to your question of whether or not, specifically in the two films you mention, the couples are actually having sex, your friends are taking some really powerful drugs.
The oral sex scene in Vincent Gallo's "Brown Bunny" is reportedly real, although the movie itself is also
reportedly one of the worst films ever, even considering the real sex.
Sex is never real.
People have too many fantasies.
We dream about the one-and-only, the knight, the maiden,
the star of our heaven, the slut of our needs.
The one thing we don't dream about is reality.
How can a film be real, if our own lives are so fake?
In "Romance," A French film, the sex is real, and the mivie still bores one to tears.
Are you guys talking about porno? I've seen real sex in porno but...
"Real sex" has made it into mainstream art films. I never though sex could be boring, but....
