"... the Real ID Act ?- a clunker of a law passed two years ago ?-" This quote is from the NY Times editorial "Legal Licenses" in this morning's edition.
It is an immensely complex, and in my opinion intrusive, law, and several states have refused to cooperate with it. The result could be a two-tiered driver's license system, one state, and one federal. It's a bad idea all around.
I just wonder which states have maintained their independence in this matter.
To my knowledege only Maine has actually passed a law rejecting the Real ID Act requirements.
Other states have passed bills through at least one house of their state-level congresses but these either haven't passed the other house or haven't been signed by the State Gov.: Arizona, Georgia, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.
Then there is another list of state's where legislation has been filed but, as far as I know, none of them have passsed any approval level at all yet:
Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and West Virginia.
