A man lights a cigarette and takes three good drags, he puts in in the ash tray and amazingly it is still the same length, there is no ash on the end, how?
The cigarrette is unflammable.
Tons of possible answers. Long cherry etc etc
He lit the filtered end by mistake
I saw a guy at a party make a bet and do this once, he burnt through the paper in the middle of the cigarette and smoked it, until it burnt through, he could smoke it without ever changing the length
I would say the cigarette is unlit.

Ahhh, I get it. Ashtray is the antecedent for "it". Therefore, the ashtray remains the same length, obviously, and there would be no ash on the end. Quite simple.
