i have problems oopening some programs now

Reply Thu 6 Sep, 2007 05:40 am
I have spent almost a day trying to solve this problem, this is very odd. i don't remember downloading any suspicious programs. it started a few days ago.

now it is very strange, i have firefox, opera and internet explorer installed on my computer. firefox and opera starts automatically everytime since i put them in the startup folder.

now, i can only use Opera to get on the internet, ie or firefox simply can't connect to the internet at all. they will show up in the task manager, but i don't really see them on the computer screen! and when i try to open some other programs such as the media player, ccleaner, etc, they won't show on the computer screen either!

(new: after a while, somehow, firefox is working again?! how strange, but i still can't use ie)

from what i read online, and according to the task manager, svchost.exe is consuming up 99% cpu power. so i tried to fix that, nothing worked at all.

once in a while, some program can work properly after i click on their icons.

so what is going on here? oh, yea, i scaned with spybot, adware, anvir antivirus, and i cleaned everything.

and i have this anvir antivirus program, it can no longer get connected to the internet any more.

so i don't know what is happening now, i will try to attach a hijackthis log after this.

First, take your log and make a copy of it. Then, using the copy, delete anything you recognize or can account for. For what's left, do a Google search or search for the item plus words like spyware, trojan or virus.

For example, I looked up F4FBA929-A891-492C-A0F6-5C79CC4F1742 (which is in your log) and found it on a number of spyware help sites but that does not necessarily mean it's problematic. In fact, it probably isn't, it's more likely that it's just something that those people also had on their computers. But I do recommend checking.

For anything that you cannot find, go to mcafee or symantec's forums and ask, and post the original of your hijackthis log because it's possible that you'd flag something as being okay when it's not. I suggest going through the above exercise, though, so that you can ask a directed question or maybe even fix the problem yourself as those sites, I'm sure, are inundated.

I'm sorry I can't do too much more for you; timber was the spyware expert and it's time like this that I really miss him.

Good luck to you.

actually, somehow, after i installed microsoft's patch or update, it didn't work right away, and i also did some small tripcks that i learned from the internet

it didn't work right away

so i turned off the computer for the night. today when i start to use it, i had the same problems. however, strangely enough, i didn't even restart the computer, after a while, the computer starts to function normal again?!

i can open all the programs as usual now, how strange.

Well, if it works, it works, but I'd back up all of my data just to be on the safe side.
