This is the problem i face
i changed the <language for non-Unicode> from English
(United States) to Chinese(Taiwan),and i tick the default
user account settings,whereby i apply it,my computer
restarts
but after windows started, and the log on page for user
accounts loaded,i click on my icon but it does not
proceed to my desktop, same as when i try my sister's
icon...so i am stuck on that screen unable to log on
i then try using the system restore option, where upon
starting of windows,i press the F8 key, select the "last
known good configuration",then select "microsoft windows
xp",but this time the windows couldn't even load to the
user accounts page,only a black screen persists...i
remember i did a restore point just before i changed my
settings for the <language for non-Unicode>
can anyone advice me on how to solve this problem and if
possible give me the reason as to why this occur?

Nagil that is a very very weird problem! Especially so because using the last know configuration doesn't work.

Are you sure no other changes were made?

Maybe you got a virus that damaged your windows startup & backup files?

I add various Asian support to Win2000/XP computers all the time without any side effects so this is very weird.

Very weird. I was gonna say that it sounded like something has been deleted. A virus or a human but it doesn't sound right.

It sounds very likely you'll need to reinstall Windows XP.

You're getting to a black screen with no error messages?

Hi Nagil,
obviously yes you should check if safe mode works, but if you aren't seeing any error messages or other indications as to what's wrong in there, well, reinstalling Windows will likely be quicker & easier than fiddling with it with no idea where to start. PS: In many cases it's impossible to uninstall Asian language support, but it's unlikely that that was the real cause of the problem anyway.

Very Strange
Just got back from a computer-less vacation ... and just saw your question.

I hope you've resolved this by now.

If you can get into Safe Mode, when you do, XP will ask if you really want Safe, or want to Restore, using System Restore.

At that point, you choose System Restore and select a Restore Point, then let it fly.

Under most circumstances, it should take you back to that point with no problems.

Again, I hope you've fixed this by now ... Rolling Eyes
