"Nothing matters very much, and very few things matter at all." What are your thoughts about this.

Nah.

Lots of things don't matter at all, but some things matter very, very much.

I come down on Balfour's side on this one.

Ultimately, nothing matters very much; although it doesn't seem that way while we are alive.

"Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me"

--Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody

" If that's all there is, my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is"

--Peggy Lee (lyrics by Polly Jean Harvey)

I think my alltime favorite fist-pounding, foot-stomping cheer is from Bill Murray, in Meatballs:

"It Just Doesn't Matter!
"It Just Doesn't Matter!
"It Just Doesn't Matter!
"It Just Doesn't Matter!"

But then, that doesn't really matter, does it?

Does it matter what I think?

The more "mattered" things you got, the less "matterable" things they are.

I worked in TV for many years, making all manner of progs. Quiz shows, soap operas, political progs and so on. It was fun and I enjoyed the life and it paid good money. Did it matter, was it important, was it do or die. Hell no, it was hardly a main artery of the nations lifeblood.

Well, at the moment, I say nothing really matters very much, just because it's what I'm going through at the moment. But there have been times in my life when all things mattered and I thought the Wordsworth line: "All that matters is not lost." So I guess it varies, don't you think?

The concept of "nothing matters" can be taken as both a positive and a negative, depending on your take.

We all die.
God does not exist.
The Earth will be destroyed one day.
We are controlled by unkown "Gods" whom without there would only be anarchy.

There are things that really matter that people take for granted. There are things that don't matter with which people are overly concerned. The problem is, that many people don't know the difference!

Hmm;
this thread is beginning to matter!

In line with Cav's offering, i think the fact that absolutely nothing in this universe actually matters 'at all', is the ideal starting point for inventing (dare i say 'creating') a 'web of importance' on which we as humanity, can hang our lives, and give them meaning!
