'Still Single After All These Years'
No great career or monuments,
a dull and simple life,
inconsequentially I've lived
(no doubt for lack of wife!)
Oh, I've known women, had my woes,
but I run away from joining,
for this I took their many blows
(In fact a few this morning!)
from women scorned and weepy
who wanted to be joined
from lovely ones, --and creepy--
whose feelings I'd purloined,
I've battled to stay free you see
till my brow's a sea of creases,
but as my little life expires
and spirit flesh releases
I take the blows I have to take
--their fury's never ceased--
but there's one claim I proudly make:
I'm lashed, but I'm not leashed.

jjorge, Welcome back, and your poem was delightful. Gave me a real smile this morning. Especially like the last line, "I'm lashed, but I'm not leashed."
Hi Letty!
Nice to see you! Hope you are well and happy.
I've been fooling around with a little light verse lately, and having a lot of fun doing it.
last night I visited A2k for the first time in several months at least.
It was nice to see that so many of my favorite people are still here.
Even though I'm a 'web wanderer', I still think of A2k as home.

I always look forward to your visits and am always charmed by your poems. What a pleasure to find this thread the moment I logged on.
jjorge!
Where on earth have you been for so long?
Lovely to see you again!
A spirited poem, jjorge! Welcome back.
I was just thinking of you the other day when I was read Dagmaraka's Mayakovsky thread (http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=101596&start=0) because I remember you and the russian driver ebulliantly talking about russian poetry in the taxi filled with A2kers in San Francisco a few years ago.
Hi Letty! if i can make you smile that's terrific. Nice to see you!
Hello Edgar my friend! It's nice to see your smiling face too ( well, your grille and front bumper anyway)
I see you still have your 'Spontaneous Poetry' thread going. I'll be dropping by to read some.
Ah msolga! seeing you makes me almost happy enough to take a bite...
...of vegemite
(but not quite!) :-)
and Noddy's here!
My dear, is it still your opinion
...that I should hold my dominion? :-)

Ahoj jjorge,
Mám sa fajn, dnes večer ale budem musieť pracovat, lebo som celý týdeň preprokrastinovala.
A ty? Ako je v Providence? Chýba mi, rada som tam chodila. Nu ale čo sa dá robiť, c'est la vie!
In other words, I'm more or less ok. Glad to see you back here! What's new with you?
Do skorého videnia,
Dáa.
ooops, it didn't like the accents.
ooh, russian poetry lover! feel free to post there others, not just mayakovsky. i'll read along.
dagmaraka
oh, oh! I guess that wasn't such a good idea to look up a few Slovak words and phrases.
I should have figured it would elicit a reply in Slovak!
The only thing I discern is 'Providence'
Nope... I don't live there any more.
I moved last year to Floyd County Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I'm a little pressed for time tonight but will visit your poetry thread in the next few days. It looks interesting.
As far as Russian poets are concerned, I am really only familiar with Anna Akhmatova.
After reading a couple of her poems (in translation) in an anthology a few years ago, I bought a volume of her poems selected and translated by Lyn Coffin with an introduction by Joseph Brodsky (actually, I've read a few of his poems too.)
Oh she's good. You might also like Marina Cvetajeva (ok, that would be Slovak spelling...gotta look her up in English).
