Okay, I'm going for the obvious post here:

Immanuel Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable.

Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table.

David Hume could out-consume
Wilhelm Freidrich Hegel,

And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist.
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will,
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.

Plato, they say, could stick it away--
Half a crate of whiskey every day.

Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle.
Hobbes was fond of his dram,

And René Descartes was a drunken fart.
'I drink, therefore I am.'

Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed,
A lovely little thinker,
But a bugger when he's pissed

Mmmm....stuffed horse with gravy....

O, Come O come Immanuel.
And rant with Kant whilst at the drinking well.

And Rene will be having one, too
And should he not think, he'll be in the loo.

(chorus)

And in canal will be our good friend Locke.
Whilst Socrates will have a tall hemlock.
And if he doesn't know this old plaine song
We'll ask Plato to kindly sing along.

Rejoice...rejoice...Henry will turn the Screw,
A driver that don't think the way we do. Laughing

Love it! Agape

That's great Letty! You know, when I saw 'The Others' I was really hoping it would be an interperetation of 'Turn of The Screw', but I was sadly mistaken....

I know, Cav. That's the last movie at the big theatre that I saw. The only twist that I appreciated, was the one in which the medium was the crux of the plot. The jury is still out on "The Turn of the Screw". The governess could have been "mental"...I do believe that's what James had in mind.

Thanks, Bo, for directing me to this thread.

And it seems that OAK has been rode hard and put away wet. Laughing

Incidentally, the OAKMan is having a birthday on August 11.

"In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps, tonight." Cool

don't worry Red; it's age that rips the sanity from the limbs of humanity,
rendering wisdom 2 a sickly sauce of sweet & sour dreams,
which read to the sound of mind, no more than farts 2 the wind.

guard u're youth within u're sanity belt, at all costs!

but then i wonder if this is really the place to do it? Rolling Eyes

A Red sighting! I can't help but be fond of our young philosopher. I could hazard a guess as to your age, but that is impolite. I would suspect though, that it is close to what mine was when I started getting interested in philosophy. It all began with Existentialism....then I realized that Sartre wasn't so much a philosopher as he was a miserable man. I still think that most of the good work lies with the Greek philosophers, but it's all a matter of taste. BoGoWo is right, of course, the mind is the first thing to go, not that I'm old yet Laughing

Nah. The spelling is the first thing to go. Right Wo? Laughing

Anyone know any unfamous philosophers? My dad was one.

Then there is Martin Buber with his "I-it" relationship. Rolling Eyes

I sorta like Emerson whose quote about quotes is a delightful oxymoron:

"I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."

Keith Emerson, Letty? Laughing And doesn't 'Buber' just sum up 'I-it' in bizzaro-speak?

Right, Cav. Keith. Smile The only problem with Buber's philosophy, is that if you try to discuss the "I-thou" part of it, it becomes "I-It". Soooooooo, one may only remain silent. (not a bad idea at that) Cool

Sorry, forgot I was talking from a man's perspective....Martin was standard lit as a boy growing up with a Jewish social-work teaching mom, but this is an open forum, so I waive my right to remain silent Smile Where is Waldo anyway?
