It just means are you trying to string us along, in this context, G.
It is a sort of (now very rare) catch-all exclamation when someone is bull-shitting, or "bunging on side", or just generally being outrageous!
Let us know, beth.
U learn something new everyday !!
What is "bunging on side" ?
Oh bejesus!
Trying to act as though you are better, or more refined, than others.
These are quite old sayings, G - prolly not recognized by most Australians now - at least, not in the city.
Hey Bunny, have you heard of The Waifs? Heard a piece on NPR about 'em yesterday, and wondered what you thought.
Ain't heard of no waifs nohow.
???????
Two girl children who lived in some truly out-of-the-way small town hundreds of miles south of Perth. Said the daddy like Bob Dylan, and bought them guitars, so they could learn to play and sing Dylan songs for him. Later, they took it on the road, and saw their first city, ate lasagna for the first time--generally discovered a wide world out there of which they had theretofore never dreamed. They eventually hooked up with a guy who played electric blues guitar, and formed a group which released it's own recordings and toured Oztralia endlessly. Finally, exhausted, they returned to their respective homes, stopping first at the home of the boy child's grandmother, who described them as "poor lost waifs." Thereafter, they changed the name of the group to The Waifs. They are now in the U.S., opening for Bob Dylan.
