One of the problems with attempting to implement phonetic spelling in English is that there aren't enough characters in the alphabet to represent all of the possible sounds in the English language. There are about fifteen vowel sounds in the dialects of American English alone. You'd have to use something like the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) or a respelling system like those used in dictionaries to represent all of the possible sounds in the language.
Well, at least LET 's GET STARTED on the problem,
not just ignor it and forget it.
Start by admitting the defects of failure
to try to reproduce in spelling
the way that we pronounce it, as if that were OK.
