Use a capcha solution. Phpbb has one built in and it can be enabled in the admin panel.

As to the simplified registration I've posted the way to do this several times in this forum, but the basics are that you make registration use a different template than profile editing and you remove the form elements you don't want.

Hi everyone,

I'm not an expert on PHPbb but I was tired of people signing up and adding their website(mostly porno links).

Here's what I did.

1) I went to my forum folder and then my template folder
../forum/template/

then I edited the html in the template file(.tpl) in frontpage that has the register info page the user sees when making an account- and removed the table rows for ICQ, Website, Signature, etc. I basically removed everything except for the basics like username, pass, etc.

The file on my style template I edited was named profile_add_body.tpl

** Always backup the existing files when making changes so you can go back. Easy way is just to rename the file. example: file.tpl to file-backup1.tpl
