Problems with Start>Run

Monger's recent response to Walter Hinteler's problem with reinstalling Windows prompted me to see what would happen if I ran Notepad boot.ini.

Well, I got the message that Windows couldn't find it. This is the message I get every single time I try using Start>Run. What is the problem? It must be specific to my computer, because it happened also with Windows Me. Now that I have Windows XP Home I thought I wouldn't have this problem any more, but Ha! So it's either my own computer or I'm doing something wrong. But how wrong can you go with Start>Run?

Why won't Windows talk to me!?! Confused Confused

Because it doesn't like you. Laughing

This should work:
Start > Run msconfig > boot.ini tab

Problems with Start
Thanks, Craven. That is absolutely the first time I have ever been able to get anything except straight msconfig to run from Starty>Run. Now I know it can be done, but why can't I get things like microsoft stuff beginning ms or microsoft, etc?

I'm not actually thinking of any one item at the moment, but remembering a whole hunk of experiences. Confused

There is a section in your registry that tells your pc where to actually find certain programs if someone tries to run them by just typing one word. If that kind of entry is missing for a particular program, you may need to type the full path in when using Start>Run.

For example, instead of just "notepad", use "c:\windows\notepad.exe"

That should work.

To get to boot.ini you could use..
"c:\windows\notepad.exe c:\boot.ini" (without the quotation marks of course)
