I suppose, those mentioned on that site are only the members of the "American Society of Notaries".

I checked the site that Walter mentioned, and boy, I must really be in the sticks. The closest notary was 5+ miles away, the rest 15+. I wonder what the hell happened. Years ago, there was a notary on every block. Stores had signs in the windows announcing a Notary Public.

I wonder if the addresses given are the notary's home address, and there are still some floating around in places like banks.

I looked on the website too - and there were not many in my area - Boston - so I am definately not in the sticks. It looks like it only includes those that probably register with this particular website.

In Boston virtually every insurance agent, druggist, car dealership etc. etc. is a notary public, duly sworn by the Commonwealth. I need something notarized, I generally just walk across the street. Most travel agents, too, for whatever reason.

i usually go to my local state representitives office who provides this service for free.
Most places that offer auto title & transfer services have a notary on staff.
Many insurance companies also provide this service.

@Linkat,
According to that website, if a notary wants to be listed on the site, they have to pay up $39 per year to the website owner! So that's why you won't see nearly close to all the notaries actually around in your area. Many notaries would not pay that crazy annual fee. I boycott sites like that.

@Linkat,
Many years ago, I was a notary.
I have not re-newed my commission.

Thay usually can be found in banks and real estate offices.
My closest one is in a drug store.
I used to have one in a health food store.

Try Google or the Secretary of State 's Office.

@fvvrgg,
Sure we can. We can notarize whatever you please, given the proper ID from you. As to whether that matters much to your Family Court judge, that's for him or her to decide.
