edgarblythe, even though you did not have a father there for you, you were there as a father. And from what I read you were a great father!!!

He he. A co-worker has told me I am a father figure to him. There I thought we were just good buddies.

Thanks, Joe, for a memorable post.

My father had difficulty expressing his feelings. I grew up thinking he didn't care for us; he was so aloof, you know.

After he died, a co worker confided in us that dad used to brag about us at work: Tom got his doctorate; Bill got into Sports Illustrated; etc. - a trumpet for our triumphs.

Now I think of him in a different light. How sad he must have been never to have shared with us the feelings he had for us.

I've vowed to never close myself out from my children and grandchildren. Family is truly a gift from God.
