Hiya

I've just spent the better part of 5 hours trying to clean up my laptop of spyware/adware... and I'm still getting stuff coming up!! The searchweb2 toolbars seem to be the most persistent ones... I thought I'd managed to get rid of it several times but it just keeps coming back. Also getting a bunch of pop-ups.

I've been using Adaware, SpyBot S&D and MS Anti-Spyware and been messing with MSN-plus versions (uninstalling, reinstalling without sponsor, uninstalling again...) since I kinda suspected that this could be a problem. I've just downloaded HJT since I've seen it mentioned in a lot of posts but I don't really know what to do with it!

I dunno if this is at all related... but I've got a wireless optical mouse which stopped working halfway through my first MS Anti-Spyware scan and I haven't been able to get it working again since then...

I'm definitely no expert when it comes to computers, just use it for work/internet/games... any suggestions or help at all would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ark

Hi again Ark
We will just skip the bit about the mouse and chalk it up to its fixed Laughing

Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click "Fix Checked"

Hiya

Mm, yeah, the mouse thing... the less said the better, really! Razz

I couldn't find the ulervkge.dll or ibpoqirn.dll files when I booted up in safe mode, but I deleted the two .exe files.

Hi again Ark
This thing can be a bit of a pain to remove sometimes, We'll get it,
Did you run the lopuninstaller ? If not do so, I posted the link for it in an earlier post,

Next,
Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click "Fix Checked"
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.whjarhkzlfgnlgl.com/IOYZPTjf779ZA5Flie2z/CkjmMCE4Fy8W2dceDd/fWf3RBEjiWxAHH0h3mRYjnV0.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BlehTrayTwoAbout] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\coalbyteblehtray\beep show.exe

Next reboot to safe mode ( By tapping the F8 key on start up) Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders search for and delete the above files highlighted in BOLD

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BlehTrayTwoAbout] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\coalbyteblehtray\beep show.exe <-- Delete the folder found with this file please

Restart your computer, Post back a fresh log please,

Also,
Please Download
Silent Runners
Please create a folder for it please, Then double click on the program, It will save a notebook file in the same folder, Open that, copy, paste the log back to this thread please

Hiya Don77

I'm pretty sure I ran the lopinstaller before... but just in case I didn't I ran it again and then couldn't find beep show.exe - is it right that it's disappeared?

Here's the latest HJT log:

Norton 2004 wanted to block Silent Runners from running but I kinda told it to allow it to run... is that OK?

Thanks!

Looks good Ark,
Lets just get rid of these 2
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {484360EE-99BF-16CA-0D48-64E7D3F6BA08} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {51A62ECA-4275-30DE-745C-B8808FFBCC19} - (no file)

These we need to do a regedit, Please see the following,

Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
Click File menu -> Save and name the file as fix.reg
Change the Save as Type to All Files
Save this file on the desktop.

Quote:
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{484360EE-99BF-16CA-0D48-64E7D3F6BA08}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{51A62ECA-4275-30DE-745C-B8808FFBCC19}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{484360EE-99BF-16CA-0D48-64E7D3F6BA08}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{51A62ECA-4275-30DE-745C-B8808FFBCC19}]

Double-click on the fix.reg file you saved on your desktop, and when it prompts to merge say Yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

Rescan with HJT post back a fresh log please

Hiya Don

Happy Chinese New Year, by the way! Smile

I used HJT to fix the 2 BHO things, then rebooted into safe mode to open the .reg file but it said "Cannot import C:\.....\fix.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor." Tried it in normal mode and got the same error message. I, er, have no idea what the error message is trying to say! Am I doing something wrong? I thought maybe it had something to do with the encoding?? When I was saving the file, in the 'Save As' dialogue box there was a drop-down box under "Save as type" called "Encoding"... default option was ANSI but there was also Unicode, Unicode big endian and UTF-8. Would these make a difference?

Thanks! I'm sorry to be taking so much of your time but it's very definitely appreciated!!

Your very welcome, Its my pleasure,

Lets go this route,
Please download registry lite from Here

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

In the right hand pane look for the following
484360EE-99BF-16CA-0D48-64E7D3F6BA08
and

51A62ECA-4275-30DE-745C-B8808FFBCC19

right click on them one at a time and delete, close the program and restart your computer,

Restart HJT and post back a fresh log please

Computer feels much healthier than it did a few days ago - not taking as long to boot up, for example! Not to mention the luxury of being able to browse the web without being violated by popups (OK, maybe that's a bit of a strong word, but that's honestly how I feel about them sometimes!).

Thanks!

Ark

Great to hear Ark
Log looks clean now !

Download the following programs, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster and SpywareGaurd
Check for updates after you install them, And check weekly as well
Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,
