Longfeller

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

Oops, I missed edgar's Longfeller. Razz

Here's a poem of his set to music.

I remember that one best because it started with:

This is the forest primevial

That might be the wrong Evangeline, y'all

Where is Olivier 5? I was surprised that he wasn't on Napoleon Week in our radio station. I also wanted to know his interpretation on this odd situation:

les catacombes of Paris

I think most of us know what happened to this one Zeppelin of WWI

May 1916 fighter planes armed with incendiary bullets were used to attack the Zeppelins. The incendiary bullets pierced the Zeppelins and ignited the hydrogen gas they were filled with. Once alight the airships fell to the ground. It was the beginning of the end of the raids.

Scotland was part of the target in that war, too.

Welcome back, edgar. You Sent me searching again.

Esther Phillips (December 23, 1935 – August 7, 1984) was an American singer. Phillips was known for her R&B vocals, but she was a versatile singer, also performing pop, country, jazz, blues and soul music. Love that song by her.I know it.

Welcome back to you as well, Vonny. Didn't know Duffy on that ave. Great vocalist. Thanks to both of you for the introduction.

Maybe you both can help about that "lead balloon". I love history mysteries.

Speaking of which, my Texas friend sent me searching. My dad was a cowboy, too.

Wasn't that a TV series at one time?

There is a digital TV channel that shows Hopalong Cassidy, several times a week. He was my favorite as a kid, with Gene Autry close behind. When I was about eleven, the Hopalong Cassidy show was the highest rated program. I only heard about it, because I never saw TV until I was twelve.

@edgarblythe,
Texas, most of my memories are vocally transmitted. My dad was in WWI and that is why I spend a lot of time looking it up. He used to play guitar as well, and I remember when I was a wee thing, I listened to him play Home on the Range, and thought he was talking about a stove. Razz

Here's another version of that hill, y'all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQQCPrwKzdo

I sang it when I was very small, tried to go into a falsetto and all I did was cough. I still don't have the range of an octave.

Hey, ain't y'all gonna thank me for thanking you.?
