Hurry back, hbg. Loved that one by Scarlatti.

edgar, your goodnight song by Tony and Andrea was terrific. Didn't know Day After Day by that group Bad Finger, but they were good.

To begin another day on WA2K, here's "the jester" with one that I have never heard, and it's great.

good morning to all - and happy birthday to :

Quote:
Shahnour Vaghenag Aznavourian[1] (Armenian: Շահնուր Վաղինակ Ազնավուրեան), better known by his stage name Charles Aznavour (French pronunciation: [ʃaʁ.l az.na'vuʁ]; born 22 May 1924) OC OQ is a French and Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, public activist and diplomat. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the best-known singers in the world.[2][3] Aznavour is known for his unique tenor[4] voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. He has appeared in more than sixty movies, composed about a thousand songs (including at least 150 in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German[5]), and sold well over 100 million records

today is the birthday of Richard Wagner .

Quote:
Wilhelm Richard Wagner (pron.: /ˈvɑːɡnər/; German: [ˈʁiçaʁt ˈvaːɡnɐ]; 22 May 1813 – 13 February 1883) was a German composer, theatre director, polemicist, and conductor who is primarily known for his operas (or, as some of his later works were later known, "music dramas"). Unlike most opera composers, Wagner wrote both the libretto and the music for each of his stage works.

Wagner had his own opera house built, the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, which contained many novel design features. It was here that the Ring and Parsifal received their premieres and where his most important stage works continue to be performed in an annual festival run by his descendants.

Until his final years, Wagner's life was characterised by political exile, turbulent love affairs, poverty and repeated flight from his creditors.

i find most of his music a little " bombastic " - but i do enjoy a few minutes of

" The Flying Dutchman " .

another birthday today : Peter Nero .

Quote:
Nero recorded his first album in 1961, and won a Grammy Award that year for "Best New Artist." Since then, he has received another Grammy, garnered ten additional nominations and released 67 albums. Nero's early association with RCA Victor produced 23 albums in eight years. His subsequent move to Columbia Records resulted in a million-selling single and album - Summer of '42.

His first major national TV success came at the age of seventeen when he was chosen to perform Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue on Paul Whiteman's TV Special. He subsequently appeared on many top variety and talk shows including 11 guest appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, and numerous appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

Hailed as one of the premier interpreters of Gershwin, Nero starred in the Emmy Award-winning NBC Special, S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous, S'Gershwin (1972).[2] Other TV credits include performances on PBS-TV Piano Pizzazz and with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C. on its July 4 special titled A Capitol Fourth. Nero served as music director and pianist for the PBS-TV special The Songs of Johnny Mercer: Too Marvelous for Words (1997) with co-stars Johnny Mathis, Melissa Manchester and many members of The POPS.[3]

Thanks so much, hbg and edgar. Today has been FM day on WA2K.

Saying goodnight with two songs. When I was in Bird Land and met Art Blakey, I became quite interested in it's origin, so this one is from the originator, Charlie "Bird" Parker. His instrumental followed by the lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fgxyyrqZ-I

the lyrics:

I got rhythm,
I got music,
I got my man --
Who could ask for anything more?
I got daisies
In green pastures,
I got my man --
Who could ask for anything more?

I got daisies
In green pastures,
I got my man --
Who could ask for anything more?

Old man trouble,
I don't mind him --
You won't find him
'Round my door
I got starlight,
I got sweet dreams,
I got my man --
Who could ask for anything more --
Who could ask for anything more?!

We dedicate to those women who are so happy with their husbands. Just found out that Bert Lee is in Brooklyn with his lovely wife.

Now, one that fits the evening.

today is the birthday of a great American Gospel Singer :

Quote:
Roscoe Robinson (born May 22, 1928, Dumont, Arkansas) is an American gospel and soul singer.

Robinson recorded as a gospel solo artist in the 1950s with Trumpet Records, and sang in groups such as The Five Trumpets, Highway QCs, and The Fairfield Four. He began recording secular soul in the 1960s, and had two charting hits: "That's Enough" (U.S. #62, U.S. R&B #7) in 1966, and "Do It Right Now" (U.S. R&B #40) in 1967.[1] Robinson began recording again as a gospel artist in the 1980s, releasing solo albums as well as performing with The Blind Boys of Mississippi, though he is not himself blind.[2] He recorded into the 2000s, releasing the albums So Called Friends in 2003 and Gospel Stroll in 2005.

saying " Good Night , All ! " - and remembering Artie Shaw :

Quote:
Artie Shaw (born Arthur Jacob Arshawsky; May 23, 1910 – December 30, 2004) was an American clarinetist, composer, and bandleader. Also an author, Shaw wrote both fiction and non-fiction.

Widely regarded as "one of jazz's finest clarinetists,"[1] Shaw led one of the United States' most popular big bands in the late 1930s through the early 1940s. Their signature song, a 1938 version of Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine", was a wildly successful single and one of the era's defining recordings. Musically restless, Shaw was also an early proponent of Third Stream, which blended classical and jazz, and recorded some small-group sessions that flirted with be-bop before retiring from music in 1954.

good morning !

let's remember :

Quote:
Helen O'Connell (May 23, 1920 – September 9, 1993) was an American singer, actress, and dancer.

Born in Lima, Ohio, O'Connell joined the Jimmy Dorsey band in 1939 and achieved her best selling records in the early 1940s with "Green Eyes", "Amapola," "Tangerine" and "Yours". In each of these Latin-influenced numbers, Bob Eberly crooned the song which Helen then reprised in an up-tempo arrangement. O'Connell was selected by Down Beat readers as best female singer in 1940 and 1941 and won the 1940 Metronome magazine poll for best female vocalist
