I purchased the following painting for $3 at a thrift store today.

Obviously as soon as you type "oil" and "vincent" into Google (even with -gogh modifiers" it's near impossible to find any information not relating to the more recognizable artists with the name Vincent.

The painting measures 5.5x7.5 with frame, seems to be oil on canvas. Cavas is yellowed and has some minute holes (visible between haystack one and two). I'm betting it's simply an amateur's take on Van Gogh's style (due to the signature) but who knows?

Any help would be much appreciated!

@cicerone imposter,
Thanks for the link!

From what I'm aware Van Gogh had various different styles of signatures as shown if you look at his famous works in large scale on Google Images. Not by ANY means arguing this could or would be THAT Vincent, but I only didn't rule it out because he is known to have various styles of signature including this one which isn't so far away:

The similarities with this one are the reason that I initially wondered whether this was simply someone's attempt at a painting "after Van Gogh".

@CavalierCLE,
My legal signature looks different every time I sign. I'm not sure it's easy to copy, because I have a certain tail at the end that's not easy to replicate.
There was a fraud charge on my credit card, and American Express reversed the charge, cancelled my card, and sent me a new card.
I think this fraud under telephone number 4029357733 is now prevalent, and credit card companies know about them. If you see this number on your statement, call the credit card company immediately to have them reverse the charge.
There are many complaints about this charge that anyone can find on the internet. The list is very long.

Its definitely not that Vincent.

I think the Vincent was added later by a smarty pants.

@CavalierCLE,
Good afternoon!

I too have an old painting signed "VINCENT" but underlined and more subtle (signed in the same color scheme as the painting itself). Unless the artist varied their style quite a bit from one painting to the next, I would assume it is not the same person (they are very different). Did you ever find out who the artist is?
