Hi guys I am a boy aged 21. my current height is 5'10. I am taller than my parents. what I wanted to know is that is it possible for me to grow at least 2 inches at this age. I know that my growth plates are probably fused by now. but can the height be increased through spine.

@avik871,
My mum was a school nurse for part of her career, and parents were often asking questions about their child's growth rate.
She was taught an equation during her training, which basically required the calculation of the average height of the parents.

Add six inches to the average to estimate a boy's eventual height.
Minus six inches from the average for a girl's.

I wonder if this equation still holds true today, given the seemingly rapid increase in height in the UK youngsters over the past ten or fifteen years?

Land of the Giants, or wot?

@avik871,
It is not likely that you continue to grow (taller) at this age.

@Lordyaswas,
I'm not disputing your mum's story, but that equation seems really out of whack. The average height of a woman in the US is 5' 4.5", for a man, 5'10". The UK is similar, very slightly shorter. If an average couple had an average boy and girl, the heights would be 5 or 6" apart, not 12".

@avik871,
It's not probable. Freak occurrences can occur but it's so unlikely as to not be worth hoping for.

"On average, female growth speed trails off to zero at about 15 or 16 years, whereas the male curve continues for approximately 3 more years, going to zero at about 18–20. "

Being 5ft 10 inch tall is a pretty good height.

@avik871,
I don't think it's going to happen I'm afraid. 21 is usually around the age when you stop growing. 5'10 is a good height anyway!

@benjadams,
so
even if I stretch my spine or do regular sprints, it won't help the cause?

No -- nor will saying prayers or casting a spell.

@Ragman,
My father was 5'6", full colonel, USAAF.
My first real boyfriend was 5'3", a mountaineer, notable among mountain climbers. I was crazy about him.
My long time husband was 5'10", just right in many ways.
Most of my male bosses were, eh, 5'6" to 6'. Brains were what mattered, at least to me and other researchers/scientists.
The only even small crush I've had on a quite tall guy is my doctor, and I could be his mother, so never mind.

@avik871,
Why are you worrying about your height? Is this common among your friends and where you live? Common among boys? Common among girls?
Common among men?, common among women?

@ossobuco,
I'm 5ft 7in, myself. I used to be a whole 5ft 7.5in...but gravity has pulled me closer to the earth. My sister and my mom ..in fact, all of my family members were taller than me.

I think when I was a teenager ..perhaps 'til I was 21, it mattered a bit. After that I just didn't mind anymore.

After all, there's little to be done about it so you might as well adjust.

@avik871,
As long as you are not aspiring to be an NBA player your height is just fine.

I attained 5'2" by adulthood, and remained there for a couple decades.

Now I'm 5'3 and maybe an extra 1/4" in the morning. I didnt' grow, but had body work done (rolfing) that aligned my body properly.
