I've reproduced a whole page today because I'm interested in the cartoon in the bottom right hand corner. We all know restaurants go full out to maximise profits, but charging people to look at a menu? That's new, actually no, that's really old.

@edgarblythe,
I thought you would like those sailors, Mark.

Love The Lullaby of Broadway, my friend.

Going to say good afternoon now with three songs.

First, George Shearing that we saw at The Embers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xglZFKO_WnU

and, the lyrics:

The shadow of your smile
When you are gone
Will color all my dreams
And light the dawn
Look into my eyes
My love, and see
All the lovely things
You are to me

Our wistful little star
Was far too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so did I
Now, when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile

Now, Andrea and friend:

And Perry with the lyrics:

I like the three songs, letty. Jerry Reed is a funny guy. I have been listening to Leonard and Judy sing Suzanne since 1968. Ave Maria - I like probably a dozen versions of it.

Here is the first record Jerry Lee Lewis made.

@edgarblythe,
You sent me searching, Mark. Just found out that Jesse was from San Antonia, Texas. Speaking of Willie, here is another by him and Ray:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZRja7Dig74

Ah, I had forgotten that Poe attended UVA,

Here is a lovely poem by him:

A Dream Within a Dream
By Edgar Allan Poe
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

@edgarblythe,
Thanks again for your comment, Mark. Walter is the one who introduced me to Vera Lynn, and I love Lili Marlene.

Well, I have company now so I'll say good afternoon with two songs:

First, Jethro:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIypWAj-ACM

Remember my friend Bob. When I told him that I
had Scottish blood in me, he said: "I have Apache blood in me."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0I-L5CrG14

Hope Jethro worked, I keep getting Glenn. Sad

If he doesn't, It's called Living in the Past, y'all.

Always great having England with us,

From Letty with love to the world
