That's a really good observation, Baldimo.
One thing that makes me crazy is that most of these "bad" photos are selfies that people made publicly available by their own hand. By doing so, aren't they perpetuating the idea that young people are dangerous/out of control/to be feared?
My own teenager is guilty of posting sneering, tough-guy photos of himself. I've warned him about it ever since I allowed him to join any social media sites. I sent him a link to this and got the "OOOhhhhh Mom" and eyerolls.
I can't help but wonder what might happen if they'd all just stop posting such things. If the only photo a reporter could find was a happy graduation shot, would our ideas about young people get better?
I understand kids want to appear older and cooler. I did it too. Thankfully there wasn't any internet when I was doing it. A reporter would have had to go to my parents and ask for a photo. You can bet they'd have ended up with the happy graduation photo.
