My computer is so busy adding virtual memory it interferes with my usage. How can I give it the virtual memory it needs? My harddisc areas are about 80% free.

That depends upon what operating system you are using.

In most versions of Windows (don't know about Vista), this is the sequence:

Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance/Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory>Change

With memory being so cheap I suggest you add real memory to your computer.

Windows 32 machines can used up to 4 G of memory
