Oh, great! Another fabric made from petroleum. Just what we need. Another way to use oil. ---BBB

They certainly look and feel like an ordinary pair of trousers. The fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles. But, in fact, each pair has been made from 14 mineral water bottles.

The trousers, which cost £19.50 a pair and come in charcoal or navy, are part of a new green drive at Marks & Spencer. They are made in factories in Indonesia from recycled clear plastic bottles that have been spun into polyester in Taiwan. Then they are shipped to M&S stores in London, Dartford, Sheffield, Milton Keynes, Chester, Warrington, Thurrock and Glasgow.

The men's trousers are part of a new eco-initiative which, if successful, could be extended to the women's ranges.

The crease-resistant trousers are machine washable and come with an integral "coin-catcher" pocket, which prevents loose change dropping out when you sit down.
