You'd still be in the size range where you get more bang for your buck with an LCD.

LCD blows plasma away IMO. Blacker blacks, brighter picture and higher contrast ratios make LCD the easy choice. Plasma is going the way of the tube. But that's just me.

I just bought a 37" (94cm) Vizio LCD HDTV for $799 at Costco. It's great.

This info is not up to the minute. I recently bought a Sony 52" LCD. That is also the "problem" with televisions today. The technology is advancing at warp speed, and the prices are dropping. A 32" LCD that I bought a couple of months ago is now $300 cheaper than when I bought it!

You can certainly get them cheaper than we can. About the cheapest new one I can find in the size I'm looking for (42") is $2000. We've got a factory seconds warehouse close by. I'm also going to look there.

There are big problems with Plasma TVs if you live above sea level. In Albuquerque, NM, at 5000 feet, plasma TVs emit high piercing sounds and other problems.

Taking into account everyday prices and exchange rates, it's about $500 cheaper in the US. I can't comment on brand differences. The brand in the link I've never seen here. Freight costs normally screw us over, being 12000 miles away from everywhere.

LCD all the way. Plasma TVs tend to "burn" if an image is projected on them for too long. For example, if you watch a lot of NN that bar that scrolls along the bottom will cast a permanent shadow on your TV

Vizio is a relatively new entry into the US market. They underpriced everyone to establish a beachhead.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Sony Bravia?

Looking at LCD's at the store, it seemed Bravia had the best picture. I'm waiting for like the Labor Day Sales in August, so I'm saving up.

I have a Sony projection HDTV, and I love it. Sony's are great, their internal programming top notch, but they cost more.

I have two of them..............a 32" and a 52". The 52" in an XBR3, which is full 1080HD. The 32" isn't full HD but is a 768. At the time that I bought it, I was told that in the smaller size, there would not be much of a perceived difference in quality.

Anyhow, I love both of them. Be aware though, that with HD sets, the regular broadcasts might not be quite as good as they were on the old sets. Also, a lot has to do with your cable provider. The picture is only as good as the signal that it receives.

Just an FYI.

FULLHD = 1080P (nobody broadcasts in this though)

1080i and 720P are both HD formats, used currently by the major networks as well as satellite and cable (but you pay extra). You can pull in 1080i and 720p over your roof antenna.
