A friend's daughter went to Redham - and they were very happy with it. Challenging academically and sports-wise. Was a bit pretentious, though!

They also looked at IGS - and decided against it - or perhaps decided for Redham.

Redham & IGS
Living in the Eastern Suburbs is not as bad as living in a shoe box. Renting a house without going through an Exec Leasing Agent will find a good 3-4 bedroom house with yard and garage for about $800Aus/week.

Our son attended IGS for 3 years and I can say that it is a very good school, especially if your child is more into art, music and language. A second language is compulsory at the school, German, Italian, French, Japanese. The music education in great with a number of well known musicians sending there kids to the school. Academic is as good as any other independant school. My only qualification is that if your kid is a sports nut, this is not the school (same as Redham). Our son also struggled with the 2nd language as we did not speak the second language.

Redham has developed a fantastic reputation academically and really focuses on the development of the indvidual child academically. Sport is limited. Some people think that only Jewish people send there kids to Redham - this is not true. We have a number of Greek and Italian friends whose kids go to the school and love it. Again if sporting involvement is a factor for your child then this school is limited in this area.

I hope this helps.

Darren

Does the child have to know the second language to start with?

(Just wondering - I neither have children of school age nor am moving to Australia).

Reddham and IGS
Thank you so much for your comments. I am leaning to Reddham as it seems to be have a strong academic focus and a dance program, but hearing from people who have or know children who have attended gives me some comfort. None of my children are sporty so lack of sport is not an issue. We are actually Australians who have been living in Europe and US for 6 years and I want to come back but not to my home state which is going to be a bit too slow for us, hence looking into sydney like its yet another international move. We want to buy, but the price of housing seems huge hence my shoe box comment.

Any other advice gratefully received. Is the job market for a ceo of a technology company likely to be good ?
many thanks

Can't answer that. The IT sector has been really up and down lately, with massive oversupply in some areas, but shortages elsewhere.

I suspect other industries are much the same. Good luck.

THE SCHOOL
I go to IGS and it is awsome. The students are cool, the staff are cool and the subjects are cool. You might think that learning 2 languages is too much, bu tit is not, it is great.
