Genetically modified canola is OK'd to plant in Oz. Do you Aussies know about this? What do you think about it?
GM Canola
Not in my state, it ain't.
South Australia has decided to remain GM free for now.
The majority of submissions received by the committee evaluating the application to grow the canola were negative.
I heard an interview with the woman who headed the committee yesterday, and she said that the scientific evidence suggesting that the crop was safe was very strong - hence the approval.
I do not know how most Australians feel - I suspect lots of people are anti-GM, at least for now. I do not know what the majority thinks.
Unfortunately, even if your state is against GM crops, the pollen might drift as it's done from the US into Canada.
Well, let's hope this is a new and improved version of GM crops.
That was my first thought, little k. Australia should be sufficiently isolated, but once introduced to the continent, there will be drift.
There have been experimental crops - and there WAS drift.
This is only the first one cleared for full production.
Yes, I think the genie is well out of the bottle, as usual.
I don't see what the problem with GM food is. Can anyone explain it to me?
