Why do so many people have such blind confidence in these quacks?
And why do they always need so much money to let Jesus help you?

I'm guessing the placebo effect plays a big part in why old ladies run around on stage
with their crutches raised above their head, but how well has this phenomenon been documented?

I believe in healing. I broke my ankle once and after 8 weeks with a cast on, it healed right up.

Not all doctors are quacks. Wink

I do not know which gang of particular quacks you have in mind, but healing isn't strictly a christian phenomena. I do not believe that you can get cured from anything by a ranting priest laying his hand on your head (and the other one in your pocket).

But I do believe that some healers can have great effect on many things, particularly mental ailments.
Healing is the process of aligning chakras, altering harmful habitual patterns and learning to seek balance and a whole lot more.
In this process the healer doesn't do much except guide the "patient" through the steps, teaching techniques and practices that will be beneficial.

Also, we do not know the power nor the limits of our own minds. I think we all agree on that. I wouldn't adamantly claim that no one has ever been cured of cancer after having a christian quack healer lay hands on him. For all we know, the mind possesses the knowledge of how to cure the body of all ailments. For all we know someone might believe so strongly in jesus that the healing experience was just the thing he needed to trigger this part of his mind. Improbable, but we cannot say it's impossible. In any case, it would be the patient heaing himself, not god intervening.

I was talking about the kind of healers who make a big show about it, than televise it and than ask for more money.

And also I live in Norway.

Healing is science.

There is no question but that our understanding of modern science has had the best effects at increasing human health.

The life span of humans is much higher than ever before in history. The number of people who die in childhood is much lower than any other time in history. There are now formerly deadly diseases that are now routinely cured.

Even quality of life issues... dental health and eyeglasses, have been addressed through science.

This only makes sense since science has been the most effective way for us to understand and use the rules of nature in many areas.

good points ebrown.

Medical science is indeed the most accomplished form of healing we have today. On the flip side, many of the ailments treated by medical science are caused by other branches of science. But I guess most of us would agree that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

But on a larger scale, how much good has this science really done? Almost doubled the average life span in a century. Reduced deaths in childhood, and formerly deadly diseases now routinely cured. These were reasons given in support of medical science, but on a larger scale that might not be so. Do you suppose our time's environmental problems are separate from the issue at hand, or is there a connection? I have no clear stand on that myself. I'm just asking.

Yes, those guys can tug my nugget.

And I didn't think "socialist paradise" could be anywhere but norway. Besides, you already said that. I was wondering which town.
