Are you a 1-3 or a 2-4?

Interesting question. My finger-snapping and/or foot twitching is so spontaneous that I never gave it any thought or notice. In retrospect, when listening to jazz, I tend to nod my head on the down-beat. But, as I say, that's so automatic, I never actually noticed until you asked the question.

Fealola (guapalola?), that's a great observation about Clinton! True!

Dys -- YOU WOULD!!

I'm not a dancer, not without a lot of self-consciousness, being tall and long-legged and a natural tripper. But catch me alone sometime with Afro-Pop Worldwide on. Or in the car with some terrific music on and the open highway calling I become a one-person band, tappin' it out on the steering wheel, shoutin' and singin', twistin' and shoutin' -- particularly on interstates and particularly when I've just had the wheels balanced....

LittleK -- Try doing "I Got Rhythm" in 2-4.

car-dancing!
love it!

Gimme Shelter is a good sample song for me. I sometimes get different patterns going with finger snappin' (which i'm horrid at), toe tappin' and head boppin'. But it has to happen - I can't force it. Kinda like, ya know.

faelola - I don't know that one well enough. I am going to guess I clap/tap/snap out different beats depending on the music type.

I think I figured it out!!! Twist and Shout got me chair dancing. I'm pretty sure I'm doing it on the backbeat (2-4).

little k, everyone knows Jingle Bells. That is a good example of 1-3.
Catchy. Almost all catchy tunes are 1-3.

Merciless piece of Xmas torture, Jingle Bells, but a perfect 1-3. Useless to us 2-4's!

As a woman with no pitch whatsoever, much less perfect, who spent years worried about not being hip (or hep) enough, I passed various peers in hip/savvy to no avail, hip is always moving away. I try to avoid clapping, do various other moves.
