After decades of avoiding doing anything unpopular, the UK government has finally decided to PANIC.

Until now, energy policy in this country can be summarised as "We got North Sea oil and gas, hee hee hee".

Well not any more we aint. We produced the stuff quicker than just about anywhere else, (thank you Mrs Thatcher) with no regard to the affect that had on long term resources. Now North Sea production is declining at an alarming 12% p.a.

So we have to use something else. But we ran down the coal industry and the nuclear industry, and we have only been messing around with renewables (solar power in Manchester...good laugh that one) because we have all this loverly black stuff spewing out from under the north sea.

So now in a few years time the lights will go out. But what the heck, thats in a few years time, it wont be our problem will it? Anyway perhaps we wont need much heat and light because of global warming, and there is so little industry (we just move other peoples money about for a living) that we dont need much power either.

No need to panic, carry on, something will turn up.

The third- and fourth-generation nuclear plant designs are very safe.
